The Mulcahy Memorial Tournament will take place in the Metropole Hotel Cork next weekend. Full details can be found on the ICU Website here. Entries will close soon.
The final two rounds of the Munster Leagues have been suspended due to the Covid 19 restrictions until further notice.
Since over the board chess is not feasible under current circumstances several clubs have set up online clubs to facilitate their members. I know that Cork, Dungarvan, Ennis, Galway and Limerick have online clubs on lichess. I have added links to these clubs on the links page.
Any other Munster League clubs I may have overlooked, please let me know.
Peter Scott, who has been active in organising Leinster Leagues over the years, is working to set up an online chess league for Irish Clubs. The following is Peter's announcement:
The Hibernian Online Chess League is accepting applications from all Irish clubs to join a new online league being set up to give chess players the opportunity to play with their teammates again during these very difficult times for everyone.
Depending on demand leagues will be four, five, or six boards with time controls of 20'+15", 30'+15" or 45'+15". Games will be played on Lichess.org.
There are no charges or fees for entering the HOCL and as playing on the Lichess server is free, players can just enjoy playing chess with their friends and teams again.
The league will be hosted on the Chess League website. Clubs wishing to participate in the league should email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please indicate the average ratings and number of players who are interested and any preferences for times and days their teams would like to play.
Please forward this email to any chess contacts you may have.
If the response is positive, the league can commence within the next 7 to 10 days.
