The Tralee team just after receiving the Division 2 winners trophies from League Controller Frank Noonan. The team from left to right is Seb Kallista, Eric Salsac, Paddy O'Sullivan (Team Captain with the Cup), Paul Shanahan and Gerry Hussey.
In Division 2 Tralee consolidated their lead with a 4 - 1 win over Ennis C. Dungarvan had a 5 - 0 win against Knights of St. James, Mallow in their final match to give them the possibility of coming second. Dungarvan had the bye in the final round so the decisive result would be St. Michaels v Tralee.
In Round 10 Tralee had a 3.5 v 1.5 win over St. Michaels. This left them the clear winners on 7 match points.
Dungarvan and St. Michaels finished on 4.5 points each but Dungarvan were runners up since they had scored 25.5 game points versus 24.4 for St. Michaels.
The final round Ennis C versus Mallow match certainly won the prize for most bizarre incident of the day. It appears that Ennis C were under the impression that Mallow had withdrawn and went home after their match with Tralee. This came to light when Mallow went looking for their opponents shortly after the start of the last round. The League Controller, Frank Noonan, had little option but to award a 5 - 0 walkover to Mallow since they were present. It was an unsatisfactory outcome for both teams the only good point being that it didn't affect the final result.
